Let it begin – Year 14

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Well it is that time of the year again.  It’s unbelievable how time flies.

Recently, I received an e-mail from a former Bulldog player from our early years.  This is one of the benefits that I love about having our own Website.  I know that I do not update this enough, but it still acts as a place holder for our team.  It allows us to stay connected and get back in touch with those we haven’t seen or heard from in a long time.

I worked with Pat Monterosso at IBM from ‘94 – ‘97.  We used to talk softball all the time and I’m not sure how it came up but let’s just say we had the same problem then, that we do today; We always seem to be looking for players at the last minute!

We were in desparate need of a pitcher and Pat fit the bill.  Turns out he was a pretty damn good pitcher at that!  Pat was money on the mound, could field his position  and was a decent hitter, though you didn’t want to be standing on third for his very first swing.  In addition, Pat was a perfect fit with our team and hit it off with the guys right away.

Pat was our elder statesman and still probably holds the record for being the oldest full-time player with the Bulldogs.  If my math is correct, he was around 48 when he was playing with the Dogs.

Pat played with the Bulldogs from the Fall of 1995 through the Summer of 1998.  He was the first of our many really good pitchers on this team and is a great friend and teammate!

Pat – I’m glad you found us out here and I’ll be sure to keep in touch.  If you’re in the neighborhood, we play every Friday in Bolingbrook.

For the rest of you Dogs, it’s time to make some more history this coming Friday.  We kickoff the season at 8:30pm at the Remington Lakes Sports Complex in Bolingbrook.

See you all there.
